Columbus Public Health says a student at Whitehall Yearling High School has tested positive for tuberculosis and is receiving treatment.

In a letter sent to parents on Thursday, Whitehall City Schools says district officials have identified students who need to be tested and have contacted their families by phone with testing instructions.

The letter said that teachers and students who have not been impacted do not need to stay home.

The school district said in a statement to WOSU that health officials have assured Whitehall City Schools that this is an isolated incident, and that the risk of transmission to students and staff is low.

The district's letter to parents said that TB testing is recommended only to individuals identified by Columbus Public Health.
