New Albany City Council has approved a tax abatement for a new $420 million data center Microsoft is bringing to the city.

Microsoft plans to build the center on a 200-acre site on Beech Road.

Construction is set to begin in July 2025 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2027. The center will employ 30 people once it opens.

On Tuesday, the city council approved a 15-year, 100% tax abatement for the project.

In a statement, New Albany Mayor Sloan Spalding said data centers are important to the community. He said Microsoft's investment reinforces New Albany's reputation as a hub for innovation and technology.

Google and Amazon are among other companies that have built data centers in New Albany.
