Preeminent opera publicist's memoir chronicles love, music, and Lewy Body Dementia

Mary Lou Falcone has been classical music's preeminent publicist for over 50 years. Her clients have included pianist Van Cliburn, soprano Renee Fleming, the Teatro all Scala, Milan, Carnegie Hall and the New York Philharmonic.

Her enthralling professional life is one part of the story. The other part is a love story, her relationship and marriage to illustrator Nicky Zann, and his battle with Lewy Body Dementia (LBD).

LBD is a difficult-to-diagnose neurological condition. Early symptoms mimic Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, but there are differences. The end result is the same: the slow disappearance of a loved one.

Falcone's book, "I Didn't See it Coming: Scenes of Love, Loss, and Lewy Body Dementia," is the story of music, excitement, and caregiving. It's the story of a fight that ultimately can't be won but is always worth fighting.
