Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud will not start Saturday's game against Akron due to a shoulder injury and would only be used in an "emergency situation," head coach Ryan Day said.
Stroud has started the Buckeyes' first three games of the season and has been battling the should injury through the season.
Day said on his weekly radio show on Thursday that either true freshman Kyle McCord or redshirt freshman Jack Miller would be the starter for Ohio State on Saturday night at Ohio Stadium. The coach said that Quinn Ewers, a five-star quarterback recruit who skipped his senior season to join the Buckeyes early would not be available to play on Saturday.
Stroud has been resting his shoulder the last two days and missed practice, Day said.
The Ohio State offense has struggled during the first three games of the season, including a 35-28 loss to Oregon in the second game of the season.
Stroud has completed 62% of his passes in the first three games and has thrown eight touchdowns and three interceptions.
Neither McCord or Miller has played so far this season. Miller played in one game last year and ran for a touchdown but did not throw a pass.
