Precourt Sports Ventures has released a proposed site plan for a new soccer stadium on city-owned land in North Austin at McKalla Place. The firm has been actively trying to move the Columbus Crew franchise to Austin since late last year, wrapping up a series of city-hosted public input meetings last week.
The sketch of a potential site includes 1,000 parking spaces, an area for 500 bikes, trails, a soccer stadium and an option for a possible rail station. However, the proposed 25-acre development is far from a done deal.
Last week, a judge in Ohio ordered Crew owners to hold off on any future plans to allow a lawsuit from the Ohio attorney general and the Columbus city attorney to proceed. Crew owner Anthony Precourt had initially pitched closing a deal with the City of Austin some time in June, with a plan of bringing the team to Austin in 2019 at a temporary site.
Precourt initially wanted to build a stadium in a more centrally located site, eying both Butler Shores and Roy G. Guerrero Park as possible homes for the facility. After pushback from neighborhood groups, Precourt and the Austin City Council agreed on the McKalla Place site in March.
