ProMusica to Close Season with a Bang

David Danzmayr and Vadim Gluzman
ProMusica Chamber Orchestra
ProMusica Chamber Orchestra Music Director David Danzmayr and violinst Vadim Gluzman will highlight the orchestra's season finale this weekend at the Southern Theatre

In years past, ProMusica Chamber Orchestra closed it's season with a gala concert.  This season, ProMusica's Soiree was moved to February, but that doesn't mean they're not closing the season with a gala concert.

For the first time since David Danzmayr and Vadim Gluzman officially joined the ProMusica family, they will be on stage together May 9th and 10th at the Southern Theatre.

Vadim was recently included in a new book called The Great Violinists of the 20th Century.  ProMusica's Creative Partner and Principal Guest Artist is one of 30 violinists on the list, which includes Joshua Bell, Pinchas Zukerman, Hilary Hahn, Anne Sophie Mutter, Gil Shaham, and Sarah Chang.  At only 41 years of age, I would expect that Vadim will be included in The Great Violinists of the 21st Century, whenever that is published.

Vadim will perform Max Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1 with ProMusica.  David Danzmayr will also continue his series of performances of Schubert symphonies with the Symphony No. 3, and conduct a wonderful piece by William Bolcom called, Commedia for Almost 18th Century Orchestra.  Bolcom says, "Commedia was commissioned by the almost-eighteenth century sized St. Paul Chamber Orchestra," hence the title.  The composer tells of the influence of the commedia dell’arte, the 16th century Italian theater tradition based on stock characters such as Pierrot, Colombina, Harlequin, and Pulcinella.

All in all, it seems a grand finish to the 2014-2015 season.  Following each concert, you're invited to stay afterwards to enjoy some tasty morsels from Cornucopia caterers and join me for Coda, a conversation with David and Vadim.  Make sure to bring some good questions with you!
