Columbus To Challenge Red Light Camera Ban

Flickr
Supporters of the cameras say they make roadways safer and save lives. Critics often call them invasive and money-making tools for municipalities.

Columbus city leaders say they will file a lawsuit to repeal a new state law that effectively bans red light cameras.

The city’s public safety director says they’ll file the legal challenge tomorrow in Franklin County court.

The new law bans red light cameras unless an officer is stationed with the camera, which city leaders say would be too expensive.

Similar lawsuits have already been filed in Akron, Toledo, and Dayton.
