Former state legislator and Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Lance Mason pleaded guilty Tuesday to the brutal murder of his ex-wife, Aisha Fraser, last November. He faces life in prison without parole. Mason was to be tried on six felony counts, including aggravated murder, murder and felonious assault, in the stabbing death of Fraser, a Shaker Heights teacher. He also faced three other charges, including grand theft and felonious assault of a peace officer. While fleeing, Mason rammed a Shaker Heights police cruiser and injured patrol officer Adam Flynt.

U.S. Rep. Marcia Fudge, D-Warrensville Heights, and numerous people in Northeast Ohio’s legal and political world wrote in support of Lance Mason as he faced legal consequences for a 2014 attack on his wife, Aisha Fraser. Mason was arrested this weekend in connection with Fraser’s fatal stabbing. Shaker Heights police have charged him with felonious assault, saying he rammed a police cruiser with his car. Police say more charges are coming.

Lance Mason, who also served in the Ohio legislature, has been charged with assault after police said he attempted to flee in a car, crashed into a police vehicle and seriously injured an officer.

The sister of former Cuyahoga County judge Lance Mason told a police dispatcher on Saturday that he had stabbed his estranged wife, Aisha Fraser, according to a 911 call released Monday afternoon. Mason’s sister told the dispatcher that he then walked into the house on Chagrin Boulevard and said that Fraser was dead. His sister also said that the couple’s two daughters were in the house with her at the time.
