Ohio State Buckeyes Football coach Ryan Day named Will Howard as the team's starting quarterback Thursday.
Will Howard will make his debut against the Akron Zips in Aug. 31 at Ohio Stadium.
Howard transferred to the Buckeyes after three years with Kansas State. He helped the Wildcats win the Big 12 championship with an upset victory over TCU in 2022.
Day said in a press conference that in over a dozen practices so far, Howard has graded above fellow quarterbacks Devin Brown and Julian Sayin.
"Will has really taken a command of the offense I believe you feel him in the huddle. You feel his experience. I think he did a really good job, as we talked about, of changing his body in the season. So he's become a threat both with his legs and with his arm," Day said.

Day said Howard doesn't need to play extraordinarily well since the Buckeyes have a good defense.
"We have a good defense this year so we don't need extraordinary play. I did say this at this time last year, we need someone who's going to take care of football, make good decisions, make the routine plays routinely," Day said.
Day said Brown will be the second-string quarterback behind Howard.
