Marysville Police say a Union County sheriff's deputy shot a man while responding to a domestic dispute, which escalated into a car chase early Friday morning.

Police said in a statement officers were responding to a domestic dispute near the 900 block of White Oak Court that escalated when a man pulled out a gun and fired at officers around 2 a.m. Several law enforcement agencies then chased the suspect after he fled on U.S. 33.

A Union County sheriff's deputy shot the suspect after his vehicle was disabled in the median of U.S. 33 near Northwest Parkway. Police said the man got out of his vehicle while holding a gun.

Officials said the man was shot several times. He was taken to a Columbus hospital and was listed in critical condition.

One Marysville police officer was also treated for minor wounds.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation is handling the investigation into the shooting.

Police have not identified the suspect nor the officer who was injured.

The shooting closed U.S. 33 for several hours Friday morning before it reopened.

This is the third incident this week where a law enforcement officer has been hurt or killed in central Ohio. On Memorial Day, Morrow County Sheriff's Deputy Daniel Sherrer was shot and killed while responding to a domestic situation. On Wednesday, two Mifflin Township Police officers were shot during a traffic stop. Police are still looking for the suspect, 21-year-old Daveonte Dixon, in connection with that shooting.
