The woman accused of kidnapping two Columbus infants in December will remain in jail until her trial starts.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Elizabeth A. Preston Deavers decided at a Friday morning detention hearing that if released, Nalah T. Jackson, 24, may not show up for her trial, and could pose a threat to the safety of the community, according to court documents.
Cheryl Beverly of Chillicothe-based Cheryl’s House of Hope testified that she could have admitted Jackson to her facility.
Jackson is facing two felony kidnapping charges after she reportedly stole a running vehicle from outside a Donato’s Pizza restaurant on North High Street on Dec. 19 of last year, with 5-month-old twin brothers Kason and Ky'Air Thomas inside. The boys’ mother had gone inside the restaurant to pick up a DoorDash order.
One of the twins was found at the Dayton International Airport, while the other was later found in Indianapolis, where Jackson was also arrested.
Ky'Air died on Jan. 30 of this year in an unrelated incident. His cause of death was listed as "sudden unexplained infant death," with an unsafe sleep environment as a factor, according to a coroner’s report.
Jackson’s trial is currently set to begin on Oct. 10 at 9 a.m.
