No injuries were reported but the area around a building on East Long Street remains closed after the structure partially collapsed Monday.
Columbus Fire Battalion Chief Jeffrey Geiter said crews were inside the building in the King Lincoln-Bronzeville neighborhood responding to a partial collapse just before noon on Monday.
“They went in to make sure the building was clear of people. They started to hear more shifting of the building, to which they started to evacuate. While they were in that process a major collapse happened on the back part of the building,” Geiter said.
The Long & 20th Carryout occupied the first floor of the building, but Geitter said it was closed Monday. The owner of the building lived on the third floor of the building but was not home at the time.
The area around the building at East Long and North 20th streets was expected to remain closed for the immediate future because of the instability of the remain portion of the building.
