Future Ready By 5, a public-private multi-layered plan to prepare local children for success in school is launching its efforts.
The focus centers on 4 kindergarten readiness drivers. Those are Health, Families & Communities, Education & Development Supports, and Public & Private Infrastructure.
“Within each of these focus areas we have defined multiple goals and strategies to get us where we need to go,” explained CEO of Future Ready Columbus, Jane Leach.
The goal is to get every child kindergarten ready in Franklin County by 2030.
Right now, only 40% of children in the county are ready for school.
Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther says programs like Future Ready 5 can enrich children and be part of a comprehensive approach to invest in young people.
“We must work together to across geographical, racial and socioeconomic boundaries to accurately identify the problems we’re facing and develop the strategies needed to address them,” said Mayor Ginther. “It’s precisely what the Future Ready by 5 Plan has done, by focusing its efforts on children from the time when they are prenatal to their 5th birthday.”
