After several public meetings that included intense community pushback, the Columbus City Schools Board of Education has balked at a plan to close several schools.
The board on Wednesday voted down a Facilities Task Force plan to turn Linden-McKinley STEM Academy into a middle school only and send its high school students to East High School. The board also rejected the task force’s plan to close Buckeye Middle School, Mifflin Middle School, Dominion Middle School and Siebert Elementary.
An initial proposal would have converted Marion Franklin High School on the city’s South Side to a middle school.
The board on Wednesday approved a resolution to make minor changes to some school boundaries, and to look for a new home for Columbus Alternative High School, which currently shares a building with Columbus International High School in Linden.
