Columbus City Schools made updates in several buildings this summer to improve student comfort and safety.
Operation Fix It is a five-year, $125 million bond package that targets deferred maintenance needs in the district.
Northland High School Principal Jason Johnson says that includes a new two-door entrance system.
“There is an extra layer of engagement with visitors to our school building where they go through a more rigorous process of determining if their need can be met in the vestibule without having access to other parts of the building,” Johnson says.
The lobby areas at Gables Elementary, Innis Elementary and Colerain Elementary schools also received new two-door entrance systems.
Marion-Franklin High School, Walnut Ridge High School, West High School, Valley Forge Elementary and Forest Park Elementary Schools will now have air conditioning in the classroom for the first time.
New fire alarm systems at some schools will verbally instruct students and staff on what to do in the case of an emergency.
The bond package focuses on 60 buildings in the district that have never been renovated or repaired. It was approved in 2016.
