Staying in jail can be expensive, with many jailers charging inmates what are known as "pay to stay" fees that can add up to tens of thousands of dollars in debt by the time an inmate is released. One Central Ohio jail is stopping the practice.
The Multi-County Correctional Center in Marion announced last week they will no longer charge inmates daily fees, and will also stop trying to collect about $2 million in unpaid fees.
For more on the decision, WOSU's Steve Brown spoke with the jail's director, Dale Osborn.
