Police say a toddler in a car that the boy's father said was stolen at gunpoint has been found safe in southwestern Ohio.

Dayton police officer found the car with the 16-month-old child sleeping inside around 9 p.m. Monday. Police Sgt. John Riegel says the boy was reported missing around 5 p.m.

The toddler's father told police he had gone into a store and came out to find an unknown male pointing a gun at him. Police say the father told them the two fought over the gun for a block or two before the father was pushed from the car at an intersection. Police say the other male drove away with the toddler.

Police said they were searching for the suspect and interviewing the father to determine the motive.
