Richland County and three officials have been cleared of any wrongdoing in the case of a man freed after serving two decades in prison for a murder conviction that was later thrown out.
A federal judge in Cleveland granted a motion for summary judgment Tuesday, nearly two years after Glenn Tinney filed a federal civil rights lawsuit against Richland County and its prosecutors.
He had accused them of exploiting his well-documented mental illness, railroading him into a false confession and withholding evidence of his innocence.
Tinney pleaded guilty to the 1988 beating death of Ted White in Mansfield. A judge ordered his release from prison, saying his confession suggested he wasn't guilty.
Tinney's attorney says they will appeal Tuesday's decision.
