Attorney General Mike DeWine has rejected a petition submitted by a group that wants to put an issue on the ballot to legalize marijuana.

DeWine says he could not verify that the petition language submitted for the proposed constitutional amendment is fair and truthful. He says a list of details needs to be clarified before the group that wants an all-out legalization of cannabis in Ohio can move forward with their petitions to put it on the ballot.

Another group that supports legalization, but with specific rules including 10 growing sites, is farther along in the process. ResponsibleOhio says it has more than the roughly 305,000 signatures needed. And if the Ohio Secretary of State rules those signatures are valid, that proposal could be on this fall’s ballot.
