Ohio's police training commission is having its first meeting since recommendations came down to boost basic training requirements and create standards for officers' use of deadly force.
Governor John Kasich and Attorney General Mike DeWine convened task forces to look at police training and relations with communities in the wake of several fatal police shootings and protests in the state and nationally.
In response to recommendations from those groups, Kasich created a first-ever state board to oversee departments' use of force. Meanwhile, DeWine is pushing increased hours of basic and advanced training.
The Ohio Peace Officer Training Academy scheduled a meeting Thursday in London, about 30 miles west of Columbus.
