Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman on Friday proposed an $813 million operating budget to the city council for Fiscal Year 2015. That's an increase of less than one percent above the current budget. Two-thirds of the general operating fund would go to the public safety division maintaining current levels of police and firefighters though the end of next year. Coleman has asked city departments to maintain city services at existing levels. Coleman does want more money for the citys health department which would fund the new infant mortality task force. Coleman also wants $2.2 million to be added to the city's rainy day fund, which would bring the fund to $67 million.
