Franklin County Metro Parks executive director John O'Meara announced, Monday, he will retire in November 30. O'Meara, who spent 16 years with Metro Parks, helped open six new parks and increase attendance by almost 3 million visitors. Voters approved two parks levies while O'Meara oversaw the system. It had been an honor and privilege to serve as director of Metro Parks while helping to make central Ohio one of the best places to live, said OMeara. I have had the opportunity to work with a staff of hard working and dedicated individuals and the pleasure of serving under several park board members committed to our mission of preserving open space and providing opportunities for all people. OMeara said he plans to spend more time with family and pursue other interests.
