Six men have been charged on felonious assault charges in the beatings of two Youngstown State University students that investigators say were part of a fraternity hazing. The Vindicator newspaper reports the men were arraigned Friday in Youngstown Municipal Court and bonds were set at $50,000 each. Three additional men remain at large on the same charges. Investigators say the victims were attempting to join Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity when they were beaten with fists and other objects at an off-campus house beginning in January. One sought medical attention twice, and the other was once placed on a respirator. Attorneys for some defendants say they're charged only because of association with the fraternity. Court records show five have been released on bond. The university has suspended the fraternity chapter.
