Apartment fire that killed 10 ruled arson

The state fire marshal's office says a fire that killed ten people at an apartment complex near Columbus was the work of an arsonist.

Investigators say the early Sunday morning fire started in the stairwell of the Lincoln Park West apartment building. It then spread up into the attic and into adjoining apartments.

The fire forced some residents to jump from third-story windows and left more than 50 people homeless.

The ten victims, who were Mexican immigrants, had been living together in a two-bedroom apartment.

Chief deputy state fire marshal Gerald Robinson says the apartment had a smoke detector, but it wouldn't have done off until fire or smoke moved into the apartment.
