Columbus police union head: Officers should not be expected to learn foreign languages

Language issues may have added to the problems faced by both firefighters and victims in the westside apartment complex fire that took the lives of 10 Spanish-speaking immigrants this past weekend.

At least one local police union official says law enforcement and fire personnel cannot be expected to speak a variety of foreign languages.
