We'll hear the Academy of St. Martin-in-the-Fields with guitarist Pepe Romero for an early 19th century gem from the Italian-born Ferdinando Carulli, the Guitar Concerto in E-Minor. Carulli was one of a group of virtuoso guitarist-composers popular in Paris in the early 19th century. Others in the group included Mauro Giuliani, Francesco Molino and Spanish-born Fernando Sor.
A new disc titled Tempo Do Brasil from Marc Regnier features all Brazilian composers. We'll hear one of the best-known, Heitor Villa-Lobos in an arrangement of the Aria from Bachianas brasileiras No. 5 for Cello and guitar with Natalia Khoma accompanying Regnier.
