WOSU Public Media is proud to support students in their academic and professional goals by offering a variety of work experiences. Students will gain valuable real-world knowledge through hands-on experiences and collaboration with industry professionals.
Student work opportunities are available to undergraduate students currently enrolled at The Ohio State University or Denison University for a minimum of 6 credit hours. All student positions are paid and academic credit is available for students needing an internship for their major.
Students wishing to volunteer for internships to receive college credit can submit inquiries to internship@wosu.org. Unpaid internships are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
WOSU Engineering Assistant
Job Title: Student Engineering Assistant
Work Schedule: M-F; Hours flexible.
Hours Per Week: Up to 28 hours per week
Compensation: $12/hour
Job Description: WOSU is seeking a Student Assistant 3 interested in professional engineering experience within WOSU Public Media. The student will work closely with WOSU engineering staff who will provide mentorship within the broadcast engineering field and evaluate growth within the profession. Our goal is to spark a potential career in broadcast engineering by providing a unique and valuable hands-on experience within WOSU. Responsibilities include: Assisting in the installation, repair, and maintenance of all technical aspects of Television, Radio & IT equipment; General troubleshooting component levels in various types of equipment within the broadcast facility; Experiencing various levels of broadcast engineering concepts within the WOSU studios and transmitter sites;l working with various departments to learn the integrated systems used throughout WOSU.
Qualifications: Ability to communicate and work successfully in a completely virtual environment; Must have a genuine interest in engineering and be willing to work collaboratively. Must be able to lift, set-up and operate equipment up to 50 pounds and able to sit, stand, reach, climb, kneel, crawl and work at reasonable heights in both indoor and outdoor weather conditions.

WOSU Student Digital Producer

Job Description: WOSU Public Media is seeking a talented storyteller to help create engaging content for our various digital outlets. Our digital audience was grown tremendously over the last few years and we need help to continue to create relevant and engaging digital content. We are in need of a creative individual that can craft an online story, create compelling social media posts, and assist with the development of podcast episodes and online videos. The student producer will have the opportunity to write social media posts for Emmy-award winning TV shows like Broad & High, Columbus Neighborhoods, and Columbus on the Record or investigate and write stories for our digital series Curious Cbus. The position duties also include prepping and uploading videos and associated files for digital distribution on WOSU and PBS systems as well as social networks.
Qualifications: Ability to communicate and work successfully in a completely virtual environment; Experience writing and creating content, especially for the web and social media; Subject area knowledge in news and public affairs journalism, communication, and/or visual and performing arts; High degree of digital storytelling experience, including previous experience of online writing, podcasting and using social media both personally and professionally strongly preferred; Strong visual sense and the ability to select and edit photos using Adobe Photoshop or similar; Digital video experience preferred; Communications, journalism or English majors preferred; Ability to think creatively and exercise sound editorial judgment while working in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment. Knowledge of digital analytics is a plus.

Job Description: WOSU Public Media is Central Ohio’s only all-day NPR News station with a mission to enrich lives through content and experiences that engage, inform and inspire. We celebrate the diversity of our citizens and promote lifelong learning.
The WOSU newsroom is seeking a student news assistant to help tell the stories of our region. The student journalist will call sources, attend press conferences and other events to gather audio, produce news stories for 89.7 NPR News and wosu.org, assist full-time reporters with projects and news stories, and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications: This is an entry-level position - the qualified candidate should be able to make phone calls, do research and be able to use the Microsoft office suite of products.

Production Assistant - All Sides with Ann Fisher
Job Title:Production Assistant - All Sides with Ann Fisher
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 9 am to 1 pm and 1 to 5 pm shifts available
Hours Per Week: Up to 20 hours per week
Compensation: $12/hour
Job Description: This role supports the producers of the WOSU radio program, All Sides with Ann Fisher. Responsibilities include writing scripts, researching guests for shows, pitching show ideas, booking guests, preparing briefing materials for the host, attending weekly editorial meetings, scheduling shows and confirming guests, writing program descriptions, screening listener calls for on air, and other duties as assigned.
Training is provided for technical duties that include editing audio, and building posts on the website.
This position starts in mid-December, upon approval by HR.
Qualifications: Interest in current events, public affairs, journalism and writing.
Requirements: Punctuality, accuracy, attention to detail, self-starter, ability to take direction. Must be currently enrolled at OSU or Denision University
