A truck driver was sentenced to 22.5 years in prison for causing the April crash on Interstate 71 in Delaware County that killed a family of three.
During Thursday's sentencing, Delaware County Common Pleas Judge Marianne Hemmeter said driver Modou Ngom turned I-71 into a "war zone," telling Ngom he caused a collision that was avoidable.
"All you had to do was apply your brakes, look up," Hemmeter said.
The crash killed Dublin veterinarian Dr. Lynnea Soposki, her husband Luke Soposki and their 1-year-old son, Logan.
Lynnea Soposki's brother, Jesse Mallen, told the court before the sentencing that the pain is unbearable for the family.
Before he was sentenced, Ngom said he was praying for the people who lost their lives, calling it a "terrible, terrible accident."
A jury in September found Ngom guilty of three counts of aggravated of vehicular homicide and five counts of vehicular homicide.
The chain-reaction crash happened in a construction zone near the Route 36/37 interchange on April 11.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said in April its preliminary investigation found Ngom, of Columbus, failed to stop while approaching a traffic backup in a construction zone.
