The Dayton VA has started vaccinating some veterans. But, they’re saying some veterans have been confused about what’s required to get the vaccine.
Dr. Kevin Connolly, chief of primary care at the Dayton VA Medical Center, says the VA has already started vaccinating people, starting with those in the highest risk categories.
Connolly says veterans don’t have to have a primary care physician at the VA to get vaccinated there.
“The only requirement to receive the covid vaccine here is to be enrolled in the Dayton VA. That does not mean that you need to have a primary care provider at the Dayton VA necessarily, but, it does mean that the veteran has to be number one eligible for care at the Dayton VA and number two enrolled at the Dayton VA.”
The Dayton VA is one of ten hospitals and community clinics in Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana that make up one of many regional Veterans Integrated Service Networks around the country.
Connolly says vaccinations are going well throughout the network.
The medical center has been reaching out to eligible veterans, encouraging them to schedule vaccinations. Those interested in enrolling at the Dayton VA, and to find out if they qualify for the vaccination should contact an Outreach Specialist at 937-268-6511 ext. 2159 or extension 2035.
Additionally, Veterans can get vaccinated this weekend, Saturday Feb. 13th and Sunday Feb. 14th from 8am-2pm. They can just walk in, no appointment necessary. If they want to schedule an appointment they can call 937-268-6511 ext. 4067.
