All Miami University student athletes who have returned to campus are quarantined. The Butler County General Health District says any coaches and staff who were in contact with them are also quarantined.
A release says the university learned 27 athletes from various teams tested positive for COVID-19. Many, but not all, attended an off-campus gathering over a week ago. Director of Athletics David Sayler says his concern is for the health of the students and he's disappointed poor judgment has led to the quarantine order.
Miami's president Gregory Crawford says the university is fully supportive and cooperating with the Butler County General Health District.
Jennifer Bailer, Health Commissioner said, “As we know, the COVID-19 virus can spread quickly between people and infect groups of people in a hurry. This disease is serious. In young adults it is often mild, but has the potential to become critical for those with underlying disease or other risk factors."
