From robots supporting special needs children to algorithms helping predict the risk of developing breast cancer, Artificial Intelligence helps our daily lives.
Artificial Intelligence is more than just a powerful computer to support social media. AI is sophisticated and living up to its promise to enhance our everyday lives – from robots that support and teach special needs children to algorithms that can help predict the risk of developing breast cancer.
New Innovations In AI
Dr. Ayanna Howard, recently named as Dean of The Ohio State University’s College of Engineering, is an educator, researcher and robotics expert. As the director of the Human-Automation Systems Lab (HumAnS) and founder of Zyrobotics, Dr. Howard discusses new innovations in AI like her development of mobile therapy robots that engage special needs children.
AI And Health
Dr. Regina Barzilay, is a Professor in MIT’s Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. Also, as the AI Faculty Lead at MIT’s School of Engineering Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Lab (J-Clinic) Dr. Barzilay used her diagnosis of breast cancer as inspiration to create algorithms that learn from the medical data of millions of breast cancer patients. Her AI model has greatly improved the understanding of breast cancer progression and helps to personalize screening and treatment.
AI And Everyday Savings
Alex Timm, mathematician and CEO of Root Insurance uses AI to gather driving habit data from his potential customers in order to custom fit insurance policies. While media giants like Google and Facebook already use AI to refine ads to our specific tastes, Timm predicts that the business sector will rely more and more on AI to custom fit their products and services to individual consumer needs.
Dr. B. Top 5 AI Movies
You can’t deny the robotic power of Arnold Schwarzenegger as The Terminator. Dr. B, Fredric Bertley, the CEO of COSI and host of QED with Dr. B, talks about his favorite movies featuring artificial intelligence (AI)- don’t worry, some of these robots are cute too!
How is an Algorithm Like a Recipe for a Grilled Cheese Sandwich?
We hear about algorithms in reference to social media, insurance, and more, but what are they? While they may not taste as good as a grilled cheese, they have more in common with this crispy sandwich than you think.
QED with Dr. B
QED with Dr. B, is a fun and informative science series, co-produced by WOSU Public Media and the Center for Science and Industry (COSI), that talks one-on-one with the scientists, engineers and innovators who are redefining how we interact with our world.
