Fort Lee, named after Confederate Gen. Robert E. Lee, is being redesignated to honor Lt. Gen. Arthur Gregg and Ohio State alum Lt. Col. Charity Adams. Each helped pave the way for a more inclusive military.

The Army won’t make its goal for recruits this year. The service faces its worst recruiting environment since the creation of the all-volunteer force in 1973.

Lloyd Austin, a retired Army general, would be the first African American in the job. But confirming Austin to the top civilian spot in the Defense Department would require a waiver.
