The nearly 60-year-old Bier Stube, along with other businesses on the block of 9th Ave. and High Street, will close to make way for a 13-story apartment tower.

Patrons of the Bier Stube will have about a month to say goodbye to the longtime campus-area dive bar.

The University Impact Design Review Board approved zoning variances for a proposed apartment tower at 9th Avenue and High Street and another large development on 16th Avenue.

City officials said the roof collapsed because too many people stood on top of it, and there is little that can be done to discourage this behavior.
