Floridians are still reeling from the Category 5 storm's effects. They've been waiting more than 230 days for Congress to pass a disaster relief bill. And the new hurricane season is about to begin.

The president observed some of the worst-hit areas during a helicopter tour, including Florida homes that had been ripped from their foundations. "Some of them have no trace of a home," Trump said.

Mechanic Ryan Smith of Lynn Haven, Fla., thought his house would hold during Hurricane Michael — until the roof blew off. Once he made it through, he helped his neighbors survive.

Now a tropical storm, the system hit Virginia after striking North and South Carolina — two states that are still coping with the effects of flooding from Hurricane Florence.

Hurricane Michael was the most powerful storm to make landfall in the continental U.S. in more than 26 years. The now tropical storm is moving over Georgia on its way to the Carolinas.

The storm is forecast to be the most destructive to hit the Panhandle in decades and expected to send life-threatening surges of ocean water into coastal areas along the Gulf of Mexico.
