The director of a Columbus warming shelter is criticizing city leaders' decision to close the centers ahead of schedule.

Rev. John Edgar helped to transform Columbus’ South Side into a diverse community with resources for residents working toward a better life. He is preparing to retire at the end of June, but plans to keep close ties to the neighborhood.

Although the pandemic eliminated millions of jobs, U.S. poverty fell last year. We’ll look at what’s being done nationally and locally to help improve the lives of Americans living in poverty.
