Prosecutors in Stark County have announced reckless homicide charges against two police officers in the death of a man who was handcuffed and left face down on the floor of a social club in Canton while telling officers he couldn’t breathe.

Bodycam video released by police showed Frank Tyson resisted while being handcuffed and said repeatedly, “They’re trying to kill me” and “Call the sheriff,” as he was taken to the floor.

Frank Tyson, a 53 year old Black man, died while being arrested by Canton police on April 18. His death has renewed calls for police reform in the community.

Attorney Ben Crump, who has represented police killing victims including George Floyd, visited Canton Thursday and spoke alongside Tyson's family members, two weeks after he died in police custody. After an officer knelt on his back, Tyson lay motionless on the ground for seven minutes before police administered CPR.

Ohio cities and small towns are pushing back against dollar store expansions. Canton is the latest to enact a temporary bans against the discount stores.
