The Franklin County commissioners want the public to weigh in on the policy that will guide the use of the body-worn cameras patrol deputies will don this fall.

Columbus City Council is set to approve the nearly $19 million deal announced last week to equip Columbus police with upgraded body cameras during Monday's council meeting.

Columbus will supply 2,100 officers with new body-worn cameras and cruiser cameras in a $19 million contract with Axon. These will replace cameras issued in 2016.

Ohio Governor Mike DeWine said $4.7 million in grants have been awarded to 109 local law enforcement agencies for body camera systems. He said the cameras have proven to be important in police agencies that already use them.
