The city has decided not to release the name of the officer who fatally shot 15 year old Jazmir Tucker, Mayor Shammas Malik said. Meanwhile, the lawyers representing the family have called on the city to be fully transparent and respond to records requests.

The shooting is under investigation by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation. The two officers who initially approached Jazmir Tucker have been placed on administrative leave.

Summa Health's Akron Campus sent out a code yellow alert for a mass casualty event in the early morning hours on Sunday, June 2. Many emergency room employees who were at home were awakened from their beds and rushed to the hospital to treat a surge of patients with bullet wounds.

Residents are being urged to speak out if they have information about a mass shooting that occurred in East Akron overnight on Sunday.

One 27-year-old male was killed in the shooting. Police are investigating and encourage the community to reach out with tips.
