The Columbus Blue Jackets announced today that longtime NHL executive Don Waddell is the team's new president of hockey operations and general manager.
Waddell comes to the Jackets after serving 10 years with the Carolina Hurricanes where he was team president and general manager.
The team will introduce the 65-year-old Waddell at a Wednesday press conference.
The Blue Jackets said he has agreed to a multi-year contract.
Blue Jackets majority owner John P. McConnell said, "I believe his experience and leadership will take us down the path to success."
Waddell replaces Jarmo Kekalainen, who the Blue Jackets fired in February with the team in last place in the Eastern Conference.
The Blue Jackets also announced that John Davidson has agreed to serve as a senior advisor and alternate. Davidson has been the team's president of hockey operations for 10 of the past 12 years.
