Columbus is becoming a hotbed of new music activity, and flutist Lindsey Goodman is right in the thick of it.
A committed champion of new music, Goodman has commissioned 40 new works for flute, and has given the world premieres of more than 100 works.
Goodman stopped by the Classical 101 studios Friday afternoon to give us a sneak peek into her new solo recording, Returning to Heights Unseen, released ealier this month.
The recording features eight new flute works commissioned by Goodman. All of the music is for solo flute with, in some cases, the addition of electronics, including real-time computer sound processing, interactive electroacoustics and other effects.
Watch the video below to hear Goodman talk about the origin of this recording, to see her play the works by Roger Zahab and Columbus-based composer Linda Kernohan featured on Returning to Heights Unseen and to learn about Goodman's next recording project — an entire album of new music made right here in Central Ohio.
