In a country where nearly half the population is obese, discrimination based on weight is a real problem, especially when it comes to accommodations and jobs. Discrimination is harder on women than men.
While wage-based discrimination on the basis of sex, race, and sexual orientation have been on a study decline, the wage gap on the basis of weight between women still persists.
Women are penalized for weight gain economically, a phenomenon that does not translate to men.
We will discuss the minimal success of the body positivity movement and why we as a society are still obsessed with weight after years of attempting to move away from such valuations.
