In the 80’s and 90’s, the United Colors of Benetton’s advertisements stood out from other companies. Benetton emphasized the ethnic diversity of the models in their ads to sell their clothing.
Aside from athletes or entertainers you rarely saw diversity in ads unless they were aimed at a specific market. The Benetton ads would not be unique in today’s advertising landscape. Interracial couples with biracial children are featured prominently in commercials.
Today on All Sides with Ann Fisher, we take a look at what’s behind the growth in multi-ethnicity in marketing and advertising.
