Republican Sen. Frank LaRose (left) and democratic Rep. Kathleen Clyde (right) agree that more transparency is needed in campaign finance.

Democrat Kathleen Clyde and Republican Frank LaRose are the frontrunners in the race for the office of secretary of state.

Both are state lawmakers. Both are 39. Both are experienced in election issues. And both have crisscrossed the state in their bids to attract attention to a down ticket race that also helps determine control of the board that will redraw state legislative districts and could play a role in drawing new congressional maps.
