Tech giants have disrupted many industries, like taxi cabs and food delivery. But they've also transformed the advertising industry. 

Major online companies such as Google and Facebook refined how to target advertisements to consumers. Instead of the full page ads that broadly target the public, tech companies use “Big Data,” to target ads to individuals. 

Old school ad executives do not have access to such data, and they struggle to compete as a result.
