COLUMBUS, OHIO, DECEMBER 20, 2012 Weekend listening on 89.7 NPR News is a time to step away from the daily news grind and get immersed in programs that provide a different kind of escape. With a new schedule beginning January 2013, four shows will be added to the 89.7 NPR News weekend lineup which will offer even more thoughtful and imaginative respites for every listener.

Radiolab, “The Moth Radio Hour”, The TED Radio Hour and On the Media will be featured on the 89.7 FM weekend schedule starting January 5, 2013. Weekend Edition will be extended by an hour on Sunday mornings, followed by the fan-favorite “Car Talk”.

New weekly program listings are:

Radiolab, Saturdays at 12 noon – Radiolab with Jad Abumrad and Robert Krulwich, weaves stories and science into sound and music-rich documentaries. Radiolab segments have looked at the tightening relationship between humans and robots, the dark side of human nature and how outside forces can affect our genes.

The Moth Radio Hour, Saturdays at 2 p.m.”The Moth Radio Hour” is inspired by live shows where a storyteller stands alone, under a spotlight, with only a microphone in front of a roomful of strangers, and shares his or her captivating tale. George Dawes Green, founder of the non-profit group, The Moth, wanted to recreate on a stage in New York, the feeling of sultry summer evenings in his native Georgia, where he and his friends would gather to share spellbinding tales. Popularity for these Moth shows grew and The Moth Radio Hour” now collects the best of these stories and shares them in a Peabody Award-winning program.

The TED Radio Hour, Saturdays at 3 p.m. TED Talks are described as riveting talks by remarkable people which are free to the world. Recent talks have examined how to solve traffic jams, how your brain looks on video games and the future of lying. The TED Radio Hour will continue to provide listeners with aTED Talk experience creating a journey through fascinating ideas and astonishing inventions.

On the Media, Sundays at 3 p.m. – NPR’s “On the Media” is 89.7′s weekly analysis of newspapers, broadcast journalism and social networks. Hosted by Brooke Gladstone and Bob Garfield, “On the Media” tackles sticky issues in the media with candor and transparency while maintaining the civility and fairness of public radio. Whether it’s accusations of biased reporting or illegal phone hacking, On the Media provides listeners with the necessary context to be savvy media consumers.
