Another central Ohio school district will look at a policy that allows students to leave school buildings for religious instruction.
The Worthington school board policy committee will meet at 2 p.m. Friday at the Worthington Education Center to discuss a number of policies, including the district’s release time for religious instruction policy.
The move comes just a month after Westerville City Schools rescinded their religious release time policy in a 4-to-0 vote, with one school board member abstaining. That decision ended the district’s LifeWise Academy program, which is also in Worthington City Schools.
The Hilliard-based LifeWise Academy buses students off campus for Bible study during the school day.
Worthington’s current release time policy says students can attend a course in religious instruction put on by a private group off district property, as long as the students’ parents give written consent, the sponsoring entity keeps attendance records and assumes liability for the students while in their care, and the students make up any missed work.
