Back To The Drawing Board
We finally have new state House and state Senate legislative district maps, but it does not look like the Republican-drawn maps will change a whole lot.
The new rules dictate that the redistricting commission must try to draw a map that does not favor a political party with compact districts that correspond to the statewide breakdown of Democratic and Republican voters.
To no one’s surprise, the GOP maps favor the GOP. Early analysis of the maps shows that Republicans would hold on to their supermajorities in both chambers. They would hold on to roughly two-thirds of the seats in the chamber even though Republicans don’t hold the same advantage with actual voters.

This week, Columbus issued a mask mandate despite the fact that Ohio lawmakers passed a law that said the government cannot issue mask mandates. But the law states that local or state health director’s cannot issue the mandates. It doesn't say anything about the mayor issuing a mandate and that’s what Columbus’s Mayor Andrew Ginther did on Wednesday.
