A new research study by Arbitron released last week shows that broadcast radio added 2.1 million listeners last year, and overall audience was up 4.9% from 2005, belying the perception that the medium is weakening in the face of competition from new media. I was on vacation last week and as we returned from our trip (10 hours in the car), my 17-year old daughter kept seeking stations, foregoing use of her iPod. It was fun to hear the all 70’s station, listen to etv (public) Radio in South Carolina and catch the NCAA games on AM. She has access to all the latest toys, but still loves the surprise of finding “cool radio stations.”
