This weekend the story of Jesse Owens’ remarkable accomplishments come to movie theaters in the feature-film Race.

WOSU produced Jesse Owens: Enduring Spirit back in 2012 which chronicles the life and times of a Ohio State icon. The 30 minute documentary takes a look at the trials and triumphs of one of Ohio State University’s greatest athletes. It also explores the impact Owens had after he finished competing and his long relationship with Ohio State.

Owens, was the son of Alabama sharecroppers, who became one of the most celebrated athletes in the world after winning four gold medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympics in front of Adolph Hitler.

Jesse Owens: Enduring Spirit, which was produced by our own Ben Bays and Shawn Likely was honored with an Ohio Valley Emmy Award in 2013 for best Nostalgia Program.
