Governor John Kasich signed the new Ohio Capital Bill with Mayor Coleman and Legislators. Kerri Mollard at far left and Christina Grote, third from left, are leading the charge to renovate Reeb Elementary as an important social services Center for the South Side of Columbus.
Governor Kasich used the Reeb Elementary School on the South Side of Columbus as his backdrop in signing the Ohio Capital Improvement Bill today. The 110-year old building will be renovated in the coming year and turned into a new community center designed to change lives in the neighborhood. State capital funds combined with City of Columbus support and private donations, including $1.5 million from the Grote family will be used to create the new Center.
WOSU has been excited to tell the South Side story through its Columbus Neighborhoods project and is following with interest this new community asset. Reeb will house a top notch early learning center, the Boys & Girls Club of Columbus, job training services, and much more. WOSU hopes to be part of the planning for a new heritage hall to honor the history and foster the future of the South Side.
